PCB Design Layout and Documentation Services, Schematic Capture
Design layout or PCB Design is the first of the ancillary services offered by R&D Circuits. In addition to R&D Circuits premier prototype PCB manufacturing and electronic assembly, Schematic Capture, Design Layout, or Design and Documentation of your printed circuit board would be for many, the first step towards utilizing R&D Circuits’ full turnkey services - and the guarantee that comes with it!
Design Ownership:
Your complete ownership of the entire design layout and the original CAD files for your electrical design may not be something you think about until later. Many clients never realize they don’t maintain ownership of their own electrical CAD files until they try to change circuit board vendors. With R&D Circuits, after paying one pre-negotiated rate for your design and documentation, exclusive of in cycle adds or changes, you own your design and there is no additional charge for the CAD data later. Upon completion of the design and documentation, you receive your completed Gerber, or ODD++ and drill files, fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, CAD Database and centroid data. Files for manufacturing the circuit board are sent electronically and a back up disk is sent via mail. At this point you can decide to have your design manufactured by R&D Circuits or take your layout and have it manufactured at any circuit board facility you choose. In addition you can make future design changes yourself, or take the CAD files and have your electrical design changes or re-routing done by anyone who utilizes the software package you specified. Unlike many others, R&D Circuits prefers to earn and keep your business based upon quality and on time delivery.
Design Guarantee:
Using our design layout service will guarantee your board design, for layout errors, circuit boards and the assembly as well. When you have your circuit board designed, fabricated and assembled by R&D Circuits you eliminate all of your risk from the design layout point on. We all know how drastically one small layout error on the part of your internal or contracted designer can effect your project and costs. You end up paying large expedite fees for circuit board re-make, you incur schedule delays due to finger pointing between your fabricator and assembly houses while you scramble to try to find the error. Your high priced parts get destroyed due to re-work and repair and you incur further delays if those parts have long lead times.
When you use our design service we are responsible for providing you an error free schematic (if required) error free layout and error free replacement prototype boards and assembly labor if our designer makes the error. No finger pointing, no arguments, just courteous service and quick replacement boards, for no additional charge.

It Starts with a Schematic:
You or your engineer will begin by sending over an electrical schematic of your PWB design, the BOM and any other relevant documentation directly to your R&D Circuits Account Engineer. We can do schematic capture as well as provide a schematic for you if required. We will then match the right printed circuit board designer to your project. We match the designer to your circuit board project based upon your technology type and requested software package. With over 20 available circuit designers, many working exclusively under contract to R&D Circuits, we have the experience and software to fit your requirements. Upon review, we issue a quotation and delivery timeline. Expedited lead times for design are available at most times.
Dedicated Designers, Let us be Your Manufacturing Arm:
We all know how long it can take to develop a relationship with someone and working with a new designer often takes any number of phone calls and conferences to get a project done correctly, never mind developing a streamlined symbiotic relationship with someone you trust. Once we pair you with a designer you will continue to work with your designated designer on all possible future projects. Larger design clients of R&D Circuits may prefer to have one or two designers dedicated to their company, working exclusively on their projects. Since most of our designers do their layout work remotely, this will translate to easy contact and flow along with complete confidentiality and the ability to “manage” your own designers as well as have complete control in prioritizing their design projects. We also offer the ability to hire a designer in your geographical area to support a client relationship and can position a designer right in your facility if that scenario best suites your need.
Design for Manufacturing Consultants:
R&D Circuits offers in process DFM (design for manufacturing) conferences during the PCB design phase. Our Fabrication and Assembly engineers will work with you, and our designer every step of the way to ensure the schematic to design layout is cost effective to manufacture in the prototype stage and if necessary the volume production based upon our internal

Your board designer cannot be familiar with all fabricators capabilities, their DFM Guidelines or their CAM procedures, but it is our business to be, with our own, our competitors and our partners. Board designers are often mechanical draftsmen, not electrical or manufacturing engineers, designers know a lot about layout but often have little specific back round in PWB fabrication and it’s particular challenges. When you utilize our schematic and design services, our designers meet with our fabrication and assembly engineers during the design layout phase to make sure the board we are designing for you meets as closely as possible, all of our internal DFM, CAM and manufacturing specifications. Our fabrication Engineers have access to our design guidelines, CAM guidelines and have the knowledge and experience to know which features of a design are going to drive costs up. Our Assembly Engineers have created a component library and in addition have day-to-day contact with the electrical component manufacturers to make sure you don’t have an obsolete part specified for your board. This should ensure that your costs are kept down for you no only during the prototype stage but for your volume production as well, generating possibly hundreds of thousands of dollars in cost savings for you down the road.
Interactive Remote Viewing Software, Real Time Support:
Our designers Interactive Remote Viewing Software allows your engineers top “look over the shoulder” of our circuit designers from anywhere in the world. This software is free to our customers; as long as you have e-mail, you can watch our board designer’s layout your design in real time. Your mouse can work the designer’s cursor with no lag time whatsoever. It is now truly a global market place.
